The Grassroots team took a trip to the Nambucca River with Cascade Environmental Centre's Principal, John McQueen, to learn about testing the waterways for plastics and their impact on the environment and human health. π¬π
While conducting their Ausmap kits for a tidal microplastic survey, the students found almost no microplastic, which is fantastic news for the local ecosystem! ππ
They were joined by Simone Atallah from Becoming U to capture the momentous occasion, and they even got a visit from a friendly dolphin! π¬π€
After the survey, the team competed to collect the most rubbish along the river, and Mr Parker treated the winners with chocolate and all students to some hot chips by the river. ππ³ Next up for the team: installing bird/animal boxes to increase biodiversity at the school! π¦π¦π¦ #Grassroots #Ausmap #MicroplasticSurvey #EnvironmentalAwareness #CommunityAction
