Northern Schools Steer Competition
Due to COVID causing a lack of shows this year, Year 9 Agriculture have been preparing 3 steers for competitions which did not occur. The Northern Schools Steer Competition went ahead as an unled competition without students attending. The steers were fed a feedlot ration for 100 days and achieved a weight gain of 1.7kg/day on average. The final weights for the steers were 473kg, 481kg and 499kg.
The lighter steer was lucky enough to place second in its class for the hoof judging section and the other two steers were in the middle of the pack in theirs.
The steers were then sent to Bindaree Beef for carcass judging and an update with the results will come when they come through.
Thanks to the organisers for their efforts in getting the competition together in such confusing circumstances and the students for being so understanding that everything doesn’t always work out as planned.
