Students return to school Monday 25 May 2020

Information about students returning to school Monday 25 May 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been announced that schools will resume full time on-site attendance from Monday 25 May 2020.

I cannot thank the Macksville High School community enough for the ongoing support you have shown as we have navigated this ever-changing landscape over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic so far.

The Government and Department of Education have set out guidelines to continue to make our school a safe place to work and learn.

Attendance

  • All students are to attend school every day unless they are sick.
  • Text messages will be sent daily for absent students.
  • If a student has an on-going medical condition preventing their attendance at school, then a medical certificate is required.

Timetable

  • Our timetable will commence on Day 1.
  • As some minor changes have occurred, we will issue new timetables to all students Monday morning.
  • The remote learning timetables are no longer in use.

Safety and hygiene

As the number of students and staff increases on our site there are some expectations that everyone needs to follow:

  • Our normal code of student behaviour will be applied, especially concerning the health and safety of others.
  • If a student is unwell they are to stay at home.  Any student showing cold or flu like symptoms must be picked up from school.  They will not be able to remain in our school clinic.
  • Students should engage in regular handwashing especially before eating at breaks. Spray sanitiser will be available in all classrooms.
  • Students should not share drinks, food or equipment.  Students must bring their own equipment (pens, pencils, calculators, etc.) as these items will not be provided by staff.
  • Students should bring their own drink bottle as bubblers should not be used.

Uniform

  • Students are expected to be in full school uniform.
  • If assistance is required regarding uniform, please contact the school.

Sport

  • Sport will not go ahead in Week 5.
  • A modified Wednesday afternoon sport program will commence from Week 6 for the remainder of Term 2.

Canteen

  • Over the counter food sales are still unavailable at this time.
  • There is a new canteen menu available from Week 5.
  • We ask that all food orders and payments be made before school or at recess for lunch time.
  • We appreciate cashless payments but will accept cash where necessary.
  • There is an online order form on our School Facebook page.
  • Breakfast Club will resume operating Week 6.

Library

  • The library will be closed at recess and first half of lunch to all students to enable cleaning to occur.

Excursions

  • There will be no excursions until further notice.

Please understand that school operations are still dependent upon Department of Health recommendations and that I will update our community as information becomes available.

Thank you again for continuing to work with us to ensure our school is a safe place to work and learn.

Take care.

Erica Lyne
